Working Title 5

She runs into the warm Cancun breeze to check on her husband. Dazed, he vaguely looks into the dropping sun. She tenderly brushes his wet hair across a cut above his left eye. "We need to get that doctored", she drawls. "I just bumped my head on the surf board. I'm fine." he replies. She waits until he turns away before she wipes a tear, then looks down at her left ring finger and sees the diamond gleam in the Mexican sunset. He says, "Come on, love. You promised a day on the beach, I promised a night of dancing." Suzann started to cry. She wasn't sad, she was happy. Happy he was ok. Happy he was hers.

"Okay, you're going to be mad at me, so just go ahead and say no, so we won't fight, ok?" This is how Suzann started every conversation where he'd be doing something he didn't really want to do. She moved towards him in the bathroom as he shaved, running her soft, smooth hands over his bare chest. "You know how you said you wanted to spend tonight just us, no one else?", she asked, not really wanting him to answer. "Well, Summer and Nathan just saw me at the pool and said Lady GaGa was at our resort!" Her voice heightened, in anticipation of seeing a pop star on their honeymoon. "So, because they got married on the beach, you know, like 3 days ago, the resort gave them a pass to the nightclub for tonight, and they can take us too. We'll be VIPs at the same club with GaGa! So we have to do this." He smiled, didn't even answer but let her continue caressing his torso and kisses his back. He washed the shaving cream from his face, and replied, "sure, baby." He shouldn't have said so.

Tom Beckett isn't a dance club person. Technically, he's not a club person at all, but if he had to be classified as something clubish, he was a beer in small, sweaty rock bar kind of place, where spit, booze, and girls with bad finger nails and smoky voices hung. Walking into Cancun's best nightspot was surreal. The clientale was young. He was pushing 40. His wingman and brother in arms, Nathan Moore, was a beer bar dude too. They stayed close to each other and looked for a place to hide from the pretentiousness when Nathan new wife, Summer, screamed "Holy crap, there she is, GaGa!" Tom and Nathan shook their heads and laughed hard when Suzann said "smooth Summer. We won't thrown out at all." The two couples had known each other for two and a half days. Yet, they clicked like lifelong friends. Summer got out a camera, and began to click pictures of the famous pop artist, when one of the starlet's bodyguards began yelling at her to stop. Nathan came to the rescue of his wife and negotiations ensued. Suzann felt a hand on her shoulder and turned and almost fainted. The last person she ever thought she'd see again, much less, on her honeymoon stood before her.

Working Title 4

Rain soaks his black suit. The white dress shirt becomes heavy on his skin. He's frozen in place, staring at the grave. Grief rolls over him, leaving him motionless. Minutes march by. He brings his voice to a shout and tells the spirit of his grandmother, "I'm sorry I lied to you! I don't know how to make this right, but I will try until I can't try anymore. I love you," his voice trails off in tears. Distraught, hurt, confused, he walks away. As the downpour of water and sadness increases, his life changes, greater than ever before.

Finding his way to the car he fumbles through the console of his car and grabs his cell phone. Tears and raindrops have mixed to run down his face and he winces at his reflection in the sun visor mirror. A male voice answers, "Hey son, we tried to call you several times. You haven't been home?", his dad asks angrily and worriedly. "No. Dad, I don't know what to do. It has to change. I lied to my grandmother about being happy. I haven't been happy for so long, I need...I need..I nee," he rambles. "Come here. We'll figure it all out. Is my granddaughter ok?" He answers, "Yeah, she's asleep. I checked on her." He starts driving away from the cemetery and texts his lawyer cousin. "I need to get it done. I need to change my life. Help me."

Suzann looked across the room and immediately hugged him, hard, for what seemed like hours. he had just told her how low, vulnerable, broken he was just 3 years earlier. They were baring all of their souls as if they were on trial for their characters. They were sprinting to the truth. Running away from the years of heartbreak the walls they had built were housing. 'She kept smiling, every other word she spoke, every other word he spoke; saying I love you." It was comforting and close. They faded into sleep telling each other, no secrets.

Naked and dazed, he walked across the dark room, stumbling through his memory to spare himself turning on the light. His head ached. He began to sweat. His hands shook as he pulled the small black box from his dresser. He decided to make one desperate, last-ditch emotional show of vulnerability to her. A voice came from the back of darkness near the window with broken blinds, revealing the sun rising. "Honey, what are you doing?", she asked. He turned, grabbed her arm leading her to the dawn. Kneeling on his left knee, he opened the box.
